Magnetic wooden door chime · no batteries

A soft bell every time the door opens.

A small wooden shopkeeper's bell that sits on your door by magnets. When the door swings, the brass bell swings with it and a little brass ball inside rings it.

No batteries to change, no wiring, no app. You hear the door open from the next room, the way small shops have done it for generations.

Check this first

It is a door chime, not a push-button doorbell.

There is no button for visitors to press and no plug-in receiver. It rings when the door it is attached to moves, so it tells you someone has opened the door.

  • Sticks to steel: magnets in the back hold it to steel doors, metal door frames, fridges and metal cabinets.
  • Wood or glass door? Fix a self-adhesive steel plate to the door first, or mount it with strong double-sided tape.

How it works

Put it on the door. That is the setup.

Press the flat back of the chime against the inside of the door, near the top outer corner where the door moves most. The magnets hold it in place.

Open the door and the bell swings on its cord; the brass ball inside strikes the bowl for a short, clear ring. Move it higher or lower on the door to make it ring more or less.

Three styles

Pick the one that suits your door.

Natural BeechPale beech wood with fine grain and a brass bell. Light and simple.
Beech with Brass BirdThe beech chime with a small brass-tone bird perched on top.
Walnut BrownA dark walnut-brown wood finish with a brass bell. Warm against white or gray doors.
Every styleBrass bell and striker ball, magnets in the back, no batteries.

Where it goes

Front doors, shop doors, the fridge.

Use it on a front or back door so you hear when it opens, on a small shop or studio door to know when someone walks in, or on a fridge or cabinet door as a small piece of decor that rings when it is opened.

It is small, about the size of a short espresso cup, so it sits neatly on a door without getting in the way.

Worth knowing before you buy

The honest small print.

  • Not an electronic doorbell. Nobody can ring it from outside; it rings when the door moves.
  • Magnets need steel. On wood, glass or aluminum, add a steel plate or use mounting tape. Neither is included.
  • A gentle ring, not an alarm. You will hear it in the room and nearby rooms, not across a large house.
  • Keep it indoors. Wood and an open brass bell are not made for rain. Wipe with a dry cloth.
  • Natural material. Wood grain and tone vary a little from piece to piece.
